On 31 March 2020, the country woke to news of the slapping of a senior female government representative by her male colleague in one of the districts in western Uganda for attempting to take away his official vehicle.The lady, a Resident District Commissioner (RDC) was doing this in a bid to effect the directive by the country’s President Yoweri Museveni to deploy all government vehicles as part of the Covid-19 (C19) pandemic management fleet. It could be argued that this conduct was sparked off by the stress arising out of management of the pandemic which is putting a strain on many public officials. I would like to propose, however, that the existing gender connotations in the patriarchal Ugandan society could have permitted this gentleman to take such untoward conduct against his senior female colleague.
