Following the World Health Organization (WHO)’s declaration that the flu caused by the corona virus Covid-19 was a pandemic, governments declared emergencies which have had repercussions on the functionality of the various sectors of society but among the hardest hit sectors is the criminal justice system.A pandemic simply put is the spread of a disease or its prevalence over a whole country or the world.1 The WHO more specifically defines a pandemic as “a worldwide spread of a new disease”. There is no doubt given the global reports that Covid-19 is a global pandemic.The various governments globally have taken measures to mitigate the spread of the pandemic at unprecedented levels.
